Pipe Fitter

Job Description:

General Summary of Duties: Plan, lay-out, install, test and repair all types of piping systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervision. Position will report to Superintendent as assigned by SIMMCO.

Pay rate is negotiable. Work schedule is 5-10's, and these positions will be working either day or night shift.

 

Essential Abilities, Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as required):

• With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications and plan, lay-out, install and/or repair all types of piping systems in accordance with those plans and specifications.

• Read and understand plans and specifications, including orthographic and isometric drawings. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.

• Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

• Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain, and take any corrective action needed.

• Use appropriate hand and power tools to fit and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products; cut or drill holes in walls to permit passage of pipes; select specified type and size of pipe; mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceilings to hold pipe; install valves, couplings and other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe; and lift, position and secure materials and work pieces during installation.

• Utilizes all pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems and pipe couplings including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, victaulic, grooved, glued and fused joints

• Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.

• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

• Education – High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)Preferred

• Experience – Minimum 3 years' experience as pipe-fitter helper.

• Communication Skills – Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to insure you understand the information given.

• Must have a working knowledge of pipe-fitting techniques and methods.

• Must be able to work with carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, poly/HDPE, copper, and various high pressure/temperature alloys

• Must be proficient in the use of bevelers, threaders and other end prep machines.

• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.

• NCCER Certification as Industrial Pipe-fitter preferred.

• Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.

Other Relevant Information:

• This position is a Non-Exempt position and is subject to overtime pay.

• Travel is not required in this position.

• This position reports directly to the Robins & Morton Manager as assigned by the Robins & Morton Superintendent for daily task and to the Superintendent of the project.
